Wesgroup Properties, a local developer, is planning to transform the former Safeway grocery store located at 10355 King George Boulevard into a mixed-use development called “Civic District.” The 5.1-acre site, which is currently mostly a parking lot, is located near Surrey City Hall, Civic Plaza, and SkyTrain Surrey Central Station.
The developer has indicated that the project will include four towers containing over 2,000 homes, as well as office, restaurant, and retail space. The towers will be situated on top of commercial base podiums up to six stories tall, with retail and restaurant spaces on the ground floor and office space on the upper floors. The tallest tower, located closest to the SkyTrain station, will be approximately 70 stories tall, including the podium, and could potentially be over 700 feet tall, making it one of the tallest buildings in the region. The other three towers will be approximately 50 to 60 stories tall, including their commercial podiums.
The proposed tower in the Civic District is set to surpass both of these structures in height, making it the tallest in the area. The tower will likely include a mix of residential, office, and retail spaces, similar to the other two towers in the area. It is not yet clear when construction on the tower will begin or when it is expected to be completed.
The addition of this tower to the Civic District is expected to bring further development and growth to the area. It will not only provide additional housing and office space, but also bring new businesses and amenities to the community. The tower is expected to be a major attraction for both locals and tourists, and could potentially boost the local economy.
